How do i direct monitor a track with an audio input? Im trying to do a drum recording and i cant figure out how to set the levels without recording and looking at the results.

BTW: Whats the best way to mic a kick drum with a SM57 & TSM87 (large cardoid condenser)?

I'd say condenser not to near and 57 wherever it sounds good to you.
57 won't give you enough bass probably, but it's sure ok if you need the beater sound.
if you've got two skins leave the condenser outside the drum, don't go too near the beater in one skin scenario.

(and ask those who know more than I do)
